New academic year, new Q-Step Research Seminars
The academic year is starting and the Q-Step community is looking forward to our September kick off and a great line-up of speakers for our Q-Step Research Seminar Series.
On 23rd September, from 12.00, we invite all members of the Q-Step community - new and returning students, undergraduates and postgraduates as well as all members of staff - for a kick-off to the new semester and the first Q-Step Research Seminar. Over coffee, tea, and sandwiches we can catch up, share stories of summer holidays and research projects, and talk about the plans for the new semester. The kick-off will take place from 12.00 in the Violet Laidlaw Room (6.02) on the sixth floor of the Chrystal Macmillan Building.
23 Sep 2019, 12:00 - 13:00
Q-Step Meet & Greet to kick off the new semester for students and staff
With tea/coffee & sandwiches!
Violet Laidlaw Room (6.02), 6th floor, Chrystal Macmillan Building
This casual Meet & Greet is directly followed by the first Q-Step Research Seminar of the new academic year, at 13.00 in the same room. And it is a special one! We are looking forward to hearing from our 4th year students, Lihe Wang, Sarah Aron and Lindsey Flagler, about their experiences during their Q-Step summer placements: the projects they worked on, which methods they used, what they found out, and what their most surprising experiences were. Sarah, Lindsey and Lihe will be joined by their employers: Cathy Mitchell, Assistant Director, Scottish Funding Council, and Dr Dinah Aitken, The Salvesen Mindroom. Together with Sarah, Lindsey and Lihe, Cathy Mitchell and Dr Dinah Aitken will reflect on the placement experience from the point of view of the employers, on the role data and research skills play in their work, and on what skills they value in future employees.
