New semester with a packed Q-Step schedule

The academic year is starting and the Q-Step community is looking forward to a schedule full of events: research seminars, methodology seminars and more. September is the month of kick-offs before we settle into regular research seminars and brown bag lunch sessions.

On 17th September, between 16.00 and 18.00, we invite all new 1st year Q-Step students for a warm welcome and who's who over coffee and cake. Q-Step directors Alan Marshall and Valeria Skafida will introduce the programme and community events. The Q-Step teaching staff will be there to welcome the new students and introduce what they are teaching and working on. And the committee of the Q-Step student society, Q-Soc, will tell students what they have in store for them.

All members of the Q-Step community - new and returning students, undergraduates and postgraduates as well as all members of staff - are invited for a "welcome back" and kick-off of the new semester on 25th September, from 12.00. Over coffee and cake we will talk about what we have planned for the community in the new semester and share stories of summer holidays and research projects.

This casual Meet & Greet is directly followed by the first Q-Step Research Seminar of the new academic year, at 13.00 in the same room. Taya Collyer addresses both students and staff with thoughts on what the regression equation really means. Three more Q-Step Research Seminars are planned for October, November and December:

On 23rd November a joint Q-Step and Social Policy Research Seminar will take place from 15.00. Q-Step Director Alan Marshall talks about the role of the neighbourhood you live in for inequalities in health and wellbeing in later life. This seminar will be followed by a drinks reception.

A brand new addition to the Q-Step calendar are our "What is...?" seminars. Hosted by Shaina Western this series of methodology-focused brown bag lunch seminars provides you with an introductions into some of the most useful methods of social research.

And finally, there will, of course, be a holiday celebration (with a game of skittles!) at the end of the semester. Keep an eye out for the date and mark your calendars!

You can find details, abstract and all updates of the schedule on our Events page.
