Professor Lindsay Paterson and Dr Paul Norris will be running an introductory workshop on the statistical package R. This half day event will take place on the 24th November (1.30pm-5.30pm) in Seminar Room 4 of the Chrystal Macmillan Building. More details will be provided in due course but is being advertised now so as to cater for high demand and to give a lot of notice. The workshop will be run entirely on laptops, and so we would ask you to bring your laptop to the event. R is available free, and the data that will be used - from the European Social Survey - are also freely available. In advance of the event advice will be sent (for both Windows and Mac) on how to download R onto your laptop, to save time at the workshop itself.

The workshop will not assume any prior acquaintance with R, and will go as far as running linear and logistic regression (i.e. approximately to the level embodied in SPS's Core Quantitative Data Analysis course, or Education's Quantitative Data Analysis with SPSS course).

If you would like to attend an Introduction to R, please email Professor Lindsay Paterson registering an interest: lindsay.paterson@ed.ac.uk
